Portland Bill - Visiting Weymouth and Portland
As you may know, the coastline all around Weymouth is very important. It is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site. It is also the only natural world heritage site in the UK.
The coastline here has millions of years of history on display. It is basically a museum with some of the most stunning views in the UK. Portland Bill Legacy Trail is a short circular walk on which you can explore the glory of the coastline and all of the wildlife that inhabits it.
Depending on what part of the year that you come to Weymouth, you will be able to see a host of different wildlife. The trail is of course perfect for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers. It is also great for landscape photographers and just about anyone who wants to get out in the great outdoors.
Along the trails there is some great places to stop and look at the breathtaking views over the cliffs. During the easy walk you will see the remains of a natural rock arch, a blow hole which was created by the roof of a sea cave collapsing plus a whole more.
While you are on the trail you may get to see some bottlenose dolphins and a fair few sea birds. Binoculars are recommended to make the most out of the trail.
There are toilets, parking and refreshments close at hand. If you love the great outdoors then Portland Bill Legacy Trail is a must do while you are in Weymouth!
